The Streets of Cairo Style
In 1981, my brother and I went to see a movie titled Raiders of the Lost Ark. I knew very little about this movie. It starred Harrison Ford as an archeologist/adventurer and was the collaborative effort of George Lucas and Steven Speilberg. The Ark of the Covenant was well know in our house from the study of the Holy Bible. The fact that Han Solo (Harrison Ford) was going to go looking for it, was enough for my brother and me to go see it. When the movie started, three iconic images were forever burned into my psyche. The first image was the “back shot” intro of “the man in the hat” with his hands-on-hips pose, looking at a mountain that just a few seconds ago was the Paramount logo. The next image was the reveal of Harrison Ford as “the man in the hat”. The hero had a delayed, shadowed introduction. Looking like someone I had know, but had not met yet. The third was the shadowed silhouette, standing with the hands-on-hips pose staring at a golden idol perched at the end of seemingly harmless foyer. These images immediately defined Indiana Jones. All the while as the film started, those three images impressed on my mind, the one thing that my thoughts centered around was……the hat.
I am now offering my version of this fedora. Reproduced in the highest quality rabbit felt, soft leather sweatband and rayon/cotton ribbon. Using the techniques of the hatter’s of old, I hand make all my fedoras. These fedoras are soft and pliable like the hats you see from the 1930’s, yet rugged enough to wear on your daily adventures.
